Mangold Creative recently sat in on a great seminar by Posse Social Media. This seminar focused on the basic use of Twitter and YouTube. It got us thinking about some frequently asked questions that business owners might have about using these social media platforms.
This week we will discuss Twitter and answer some basic questions about how to appropriately use it for business.
Q: Who should use Twitter?
A: Businesses who talk directly to consumers get the most use out of Twitter; however, it can be very useful to companies that talk B2B as well.
Q: How often should I be using it?
A: When deciding how much to post, simply ask yourself if you have something of value to say to your clients/prospects/followers.How often your business posts on Twitter is completely dependent on the type of audience you’re talking to. It also depends a lot on what kind of message you’re trying to send. Many small businesses may only post a few times a week, while some other companies post multiple times per day. Focus more on the quality of tweets than on the quantity of tweets.Q: How often should I check my profile?
A: At least 2-3 times per day.
You should try to check your Twitter profile with the same frequency as your audience is talking to you. Most small business won’t receive a lot of comments from their audience, so they don’t need to check their profiles more than a few times a day. It is recommended that profiles are checked at least 2-3 times a day just to make sure that no one is being overlooked. If you notice that your are receiving a lot of “@mentions” then you will want to start checking your profile more frequently.
Tip: If you have Twitter on your mobile device, you can set it up to send you a notification every time you receive an “@mention”.
Q: What are a few examples of companies that use Twitter very well?
A: Cisco Systems and Intel
Cisco and Intel manage their Twitter pages very well. First off, they have great custom designed backgrounds on their accounts. Secondly, they both have many followers which range from individual users to business owners. Lastly, they both post a few tweets per day that contain valuable information.
